Running from 1st February 2014 to 31st January 2017 E-ARK was co-funded by the European Commission under its ICT Policy Support Programme (PSP) within its Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (CIP). Its primary goal was to develop and promote open-source tools, standards, and best practices for long-term digital archiving and preservation. The project brought together a consortium of national archives, research institutions, and technology partners from across Europe to create scalable, interoperable solutions for ingesting, storing, and accessing digital records. E-ARK focused on ensuring compliance with international standards, such as OAIS (Open Archival Information System), while fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing among archival communities. The outcomes included the E-ARK software suite, which provided practical tools for archivists, and laid the foundation for subsequent phases of the initiative.
